Clover Market 2012 -- The Photos

What a fantastic day at Clover Market! The weather was fabulous, and the crowds were enormous! For about the first four hours of the show I couldn't even see the vendor across the way from my booth, the throng was so big.

I had a great show, and it was definitely worth all of the preparations. My good friend Karen hung out with me most of the show and stayed to help me pack up AND provided her vehicle to transport the big items back to her house that I was unable to fit in my car.

Mr. VJIMT was only available to transport items with me INTO the show, as teenaged Mr. VJIMT competed in the State Spelling Bee Championship later in the day (he finished 4th without studying a lick the whole competition and was disappointed in the result; I'm thinking it's a good lesson learned and still something to be proud of).

Here are LOTS of photos, as promised. The view is going clockwise around my booth starting from the back.

Little Miss VJIMT decorated my chalkboard frame for me.

Here are two of the six typewriters I brought with me. Glad I did, since Every. Single. One. Sold! And sold quickly! 

One mom bought one (from the sixties, in a case) for her son, who admired that Bob Dylan typed his lyrics and wanted to emulate him. Another bought one for her daughter who is a copywriter. Loved that the younger generation appreciates the charm of the typewriter!

My scary doll got a lot of attention and little hands couldn't do much more damage to him!

Someone bought the green suitcase and was going to add legs and convert it into a table. I'm hoping she sends me some photos -- would love to see its afterlife.

Colleen of Fresh Vintage took pity on me and bought my crib springs so I didn't have to cram it back into my car! Drinks on me next time!

What was I thinking? Didn't bring any of these either!

Next spring dates are May 6 and June 3; I won't be back selling until September, but am hoping to be able to go back next month to shop!

A Few Vintage Finds to Ease the Winter Doldrums

Even though it's been a really mild winter here on the East Coast, the junking opportunities have been pretty slim. No yard sales or flea markets, of course, because even a mild mid-Atlantic state winter is too cold to be picking outdoors. Estate sales have been few and far between as well.

So we've made a few day trips here and there to alleviate the cravings. Last month we took a ride to Pennsylvania to check out the Quaker Antique Mall in Quakertown, PA. Mr. VJIMT swore we had been there before, but it didn't look at all familiar to me and it usually comes right back to me as soon as I set foot in the door. It's quite possible he was there without me, as he did have a junking life wayyy before he met me.

Only got a few things here, but the place was big and it was fun being somewhere new. 

Yes, Shiny Brites. The guy was practically giving them away. I like the boxes, even though they were written on.

Big white and blue truck (from the same dealer) to use as Christmas decor. And a lone bottle brush tree to load into it.

I got a boatload of stuff at another new-to-me place -- The Factory, in Silverdale, PA. It was new to Mr. VJIMT, too. We just happened to see it listed when I googled the area. This turned out to be one of my favorite places, one we will definitely return to, as it had three floors and great prices.

I found this wooden train fence in the basement. We painted it white, then Little Miss VJIMT confiscated it for her animals. Easy come, easy go.

How cool is this yellow metal phone? Can't decide if I like it better than my red one, but it also got confiscated before I could list it. She's got good taste, anyway.

A few old books. I liked the embossing and the neutral blues and browns, plus they were only $1.

Tiny cat print in a wooden frame. The whole thing is only about 4 inches high.

Another little tiny thing -- this spy camera and box, about 2 inches wide!

A vintage Infant of Prague statue, with amazing green velvet and satin robe.

And this cool silver clock from the 1930s, which unfortunately doesn't work but has a great Art Deco look.

Not too bad a haul for a gray winter's day!

They Had Me at Vintage

Have you seen this fun retro ad campaign from late last year? 

MaxiMidia is a company in Brazil focused on modernizing and developing the communications industry. They worked with Moma Propaganda in São Paulo to develop “Vintage”, a print campaign focused on advertising seminars for professionals -- introducing them to the new opportunities associated with social networking.

The ads are designed in the futuristic style of the 1950s for each of the social networks. Like Facebook:

Size Matters

I finally made it to one of the Gypsy Barn Market extravaganzas that Jill and Beth hold monthly. Dragged my unjunky pal Keiren for a night of fabulous jewelry and other altered lovelies. Little did we know she'd be buying this sweet toile wallpaper-covered table that SOMEHOW managed to fit in her (equally sweet) Mini Cooper. Good thing MY trunk is a little bigger to hold all of my junk! ;)

Remember this gorgeous necklace I bought at their last show? I wear it ALL THE TIME and everyone raves about it.

Had lots of fun -- the girls had plenty of wine and cheese on hand, and the barn is so creatively decorated -- hoping to drag more of my posse back again soon to marvel at the vintage goodness.

But next time we're bringing a truck!

The Gypsy Women

A couple of weeks ago I went to a local craft/art fair. Mainly because I knew Jill from Gypsy Brocante and Beth from Gypsy Fish Journal would be there, selling their fabulously vintage wares. They have also opened a barn market that has occasional sales, which I haven't been able to get to as yet. This fair was just a small sampling of what they have in their barn.

Mannequin chock-full of necklaces and earrings. Love the vintage-look tags the earrings hang from.

 

Here's the necklace I picked for myself. Isn't it spectacular? Love the vintage silver flower, the rosary piece in the middle, and the large rhinestone and glass pendant. It's so me.
