Why do I keep buying vintage sewing paraphernalia?
{ Lots of vintage sewing paraphernalia! }
I really couldn't resist this huge bunch of sewing patterns. Most of them are 1940s - 1950s McCalls. There are about 70 here. I started to sort through them to buy only that era, but eventually decided to splurge for the whole pile.
Mixed in were these fab transfer patterns to embroider.
Another day, I found this lot of sewing supplies for a couple of bucks.
Yards and yards of lace trims.
Notions of all sorts.
Button cards, of course.
And many spools of thread.
So even though I don't sew, I do like adding ephemera like this to scrapbooking and similar paper-based projects.
So, I guess it's kismet?
Never met a vintage pattern that I didn't like :->

Great haul! I collect transfers, too!

When you think of how lovingly those sewing items were bought... some nice woman going to her "uptown" sewing shop in the middle of the town... stowed away in a box awaiting the call to duty... And those patterns! Fantastic.
At the very least, we are guardians of these precious reminders of the way it used to be, so the next generation will have tangible pieces of the past they can hold in their hands...

I do the same thing, and I keep saying I'm going to learn to sew. One day....I love using the patterns in collage and bits and pieces of the ribbons for all kinds of projects. I even have a jar full of thread spools just because it looks cool to me. Nice score!

Gina, you seriously need to take the eBay plunge with those patterns. There are some great ones in there!

I love the farm transfer patterns...would you consider selling them?
I'm with you, I am not much of a seamstress, but I just love any tools of that trade.
