So, Madison/Bouckville, New York. Many years ago a fellow junk-loving friend used to tell us "You HAVE to go to there!" We didn't really think it would live up to the hype, but we did take her advice (forever indebted, Kath!) and have probably made the annual pilgrimage about ten times thus far. Sure, I skipped a year due to a colicky six-week old and we SAY we're only going to go every other year, but because it's not that bad a ride (less than 5 hours) and Texas/Warrington seems wayyy out of the question it's become a tradition.
First, the surrounding area is so lovely and such an escape (usually) from the humid dog-days of (a Philadelphia) August that it's a joy just to be outside enjoying the weather. We stay at a B&B in a quaint little lake town about 20 minutes from the festivities (it is, after all, our only vacation of the year). We usually spend 4-5 days enjoying the sights -- fields and fields full of vintage vendors. It's probably small potatoes compared to the Texas shows, but it's a big deal to us!
Here are some of the sights from years past -- some people bring their pets (I couldn't believe it when I heard the oinking!)...
Some people bring their fun altered tins/baby head sculptures. They certainly draw a crowd!
The famous lobster lunch line...
The vendors start lining the road as they wait for the Big Show to open.
Mr. VJMT spies the 1000 Dealers sign of his dreams...
...and makes a new friend (no way did that thing come home with us).
More vendors inside the "Big Show".
This was part of our haul in 2008. Cat not included.
Cute little aqua cupboard...
...and another sweet little blue chest, with lots and lots of drawers for me to open and close!
Gina love I'll be there in spirit....You KNOW the things I LOVE now so I'll expect you'll be on the look out....hahahahaha....Shop HEARTY Friend....!!
Cheers rom Oz,
Tamarah :o)
