Whew! Have to get this posted before it is no longer the twenty-sixth day of the month. Of course, I haven't started packing for the girls' scrapbooking weekend yet and probably shouldn't be worried about blogging, but I blame that on the numerous computer issues I've had this week and not on any procrastination on my part. (Who, me? Never!)
This framed number is one of my favorite things. I love the shape and form of the stamped (or are they hand-painted?) numbers, and you can't see it in these photos, but there is a beautiful scroll-y handwriting all around the numbers. I have a few other close-up views of it further down that might allow you to see it better.
It's dated February 1, 1895, and appears to be a calligraphic love letter to a friend -- although a few of the wishes lose a little something in the translation 115 years later!
"Many congratulations on this your twenty-sixth birthday. May you live to see as many more, and may the happiness of the past twenty-six be doubled in the years to come is the wish of your friend."
"What you may want", "What you don't want", and "Sure to come true" are scattered around the page.
"Your good fortune, sure to come true in twelve years"
As for the computer issues, they are resolving as I type this. A few weeks ago my son dropped (dropped!) my beloved Mac Powerbook. It had some damage, both internally and externally, and I've been trying to figure things out ever since. I will spare you all the gory details (inoperable USB ports, kernel panic attacks, sticky trackpad button, weeping and gnashing of teeth, among others) but through the magic of the internet and archived help room chats I've finally managed to get things backed up and on track.
So now to pack. The snowicane that threatened us today wasn't nearly as bad as predicted, so traveling tomorrow should be ok. I don't take nearly as much scrapbooking product as I used to (especially since I can borrow from those who do!) and the photos are all printed, so shouldn't take too long to finish. Famous last words!
